6 Steps For Glowing Skin During Ramadan Despite The Long Fasting Hours

During the holy month of Ramadan, you might look in the mirror and feel like your skin is dull and lacks vitality. This is completely normal when you’re fasting for several hours without drinking any water. But that doesn’t mean you can’t revive your complexion. Here are 6 steps we recommend you follow for glowing skin during Ramadan despite all the challenges.

Step #1: Cleansing

You won’t believe how essential cleansing is to restore radiance. According to the dermatologist Dr. Nasser Abdelhay, choosing the right cleanser for your skin type will help remove all the impurities and toxins that can clog your pores leaving your skin more radiant. So, it is important to cleanse your face in the morning and evening regardless of whether you have applied makeup. And during the month of Ramadan specifically, it’s essential that you go for a refreshing and hydrating cleanser to avoid skin dryness due to fasting.

Step #2: Moisturizing

Dr. Nasser Abdelhay highlights the importance of applying a moisturizer, which should also match your skin type. It is an essential step to restore skin radiance, especially during Ramadan as the reduced water intake will cause your skin to lose moisture and feel tight and flaky. We also recommend you go for a high-quality moisturizer, rich in moisturizing ingredients and hydrating natural components of skin such as hyaluronic acid.

Step #3: Sun protection

Ramadan arrives at a very hot time of year when the sun’s rays fall vertically, especially at peak sun hours – around noon. So, make sure to apply sunscreen before leaving the house even if you’re going out for only a few minutes. Because sun exposure can affect your skin and make it look dull. Dr. Nasser Abedelhay also points out the importance of choosing the right sunscreen for your skin type, just like the cleanser and moisturizer.

Step #4: Exfoliating

To keep your skin bright, exfoliation is an essential step in your skin care routine. You should exfoliate about two to three times a week. Choose an exfoliator that is gentle on your skin but strong enough to remove all dead skin cells, which are responsible for dull skin. Immediately after using an exfoliator, your skin will feel softer and smoother. But make sure to use it regularly to achieve the best results.

Step #5: Drinking water

Keep in mind that the lack of water intake will make your skin look dull during fasting hours. So, why not drink more water during Iftar and Suhoor? We recommend that you break your fast with a glass of water and dates. After your meal, drink another glass of water. Get some rest then try to drink two to three glasses of water before going to bed. Finally, at Suhoor, having two to three cups of water is enough, as drinking more is not advisable.

Step #6: Eating certain types of food

No matter how much you take care of your skin on the outside, you will not achieve beautiful skin unless you start making changes on the inside. Focus on foods that will make your skin glow, such as avocados, oranges, tomatoes, strawberries, carrots… Water-rich foods such as lettuce, cucumbers, broccoli and watermelon are also beneficial. Make sure to include all of these foods in your Iftar and Suhoor meals for a healthy skin during Ramadan.
