Fed Up with Dandruff... Is there a long-term solution for this condition?

Do you suffer from dandruff and wonder if there’s at least one solution that can get you rid of this embarrassing problem? Sure, you’ve tried many remedies, but washing your hair repeatedly and using the hair dryer don’t seem to make a difference! As a matter of fact, these flakes remain there on your shoulders making sure to give you a bad hair day. But hold on, the never-ending problem has now the treatment you’ve been yearning for, thanks to The Dermo Lab! Read on!

What Causes Dandruff?

This question remains the primary concern of any dandruff sufferer. The dermatologist Dr. Jinane El Khoury gives us an overview about dandruff and its causes. She points out that dandruff can appear at any age.

There are two types of dandruff: the simple dandruff, be it the oily one with big yellowish flakes sticking on your head or hair or the dry one with small white flakes. The other type is the severe dandruff that could become a serious condition and requires medical treatment.

The most common form of severe oily dandruff is seborrheic dermatitis, as it causes redness and itchy scalp covered with greasy and yellow scales.

Seborrheic dermatitis can also affect your face, mainly your eyebrows and nose. Though it is a chronic condition that could be managed with proper treatment, certain factors such as stress, climate changes and specific medications can trigger or worsen seborrheic dermatitis flares.

Apparently, doctors don’t know yet the exact cause of seborrheic dermatitis. However, it might be related to a yeast (fungus) called Malassezia.

What about Severe Dry Dandruff?

There are several factors that may be causing this condition, on top of which is psoriasis that affects scalp and causes dry dandruff. Psoriasis can affect your body and nails as well, but less than seborrheic dermatitis.

One way to tell the difference between seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis is the appearance of the scalp and dandruff, but it’s always better to seek out a specialist who can come up with the correct diagnosis.

What is the Treatment of Dandruff?

If you suffer from mild dandruff, then you may need to change your shampoo. Go for a medicated anti-dandruff shampoo and use it two to three times a week.

However, if you have severe dandruff that causes redness and itching , your doctor can prescribe you a lotion that contains topical steroids or other soothing ingredients to reduce inflammation. This treatment is often given in conjunction with a medicinal shampoo for best results.

How Do You Choose your Anti-Dandruff Shampoo?

So, in both cases, whether you have mild or severe dandruff, you need a medical shampoo. There are a lot of anti-dandruff shampoos out there. That’s why we reached out to Dr. Jinan El Khoury who tells us more on how to choose the right anti-dandruff shampoo with the best active ingredients.

She explains that it must contain ingredients that reduce inflammation such as  ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione and piroctone olamine since these elements act as anti-inflammatory. Salicylic acid also fights dandruff, and tar can be used to treat psoriasis.

She also adds that these types of medical shampoo can cause the hair to look dry. So, it’s important to strictly stick to the prescription of your doctor, and not use a greater amount than the recommended one.

Finally, if you have mild dandruff, we recommend the following two shampoos from Ducray, the leader on the market for anti-dandruff shampoos:
